PERTH MINT SILVER KANGAROO COINS
Australian Silver Kangaroo Coins
The Australian Kangaroo Silver Coin is one of the finest silver coins minted by the well-known Australian Perth Mint. This silver coin features on its reverse the world’s largest marsupial – the kangaroo. Besides its image, on the reverse are also the engravings of the “P” mintmark, the year of minting, purity and weight. On the obverse side of the coin is depicted the right profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II created by Ian Rank-Broadley. Although the kangaroo is not the official symbol of Australia, it appears on the emblems of some private companies and government agencies, as well as on the Australian coat of arms and some currency forms.
The Perth Mint Silver Kangaroo coin was first released in 1993 with the initial purpose of being a proof coin. Since then, each year the famous mint stamps the proof kangaroo silver coin in limited mintages of roughly 20,000 high-relief units. The kangaroo image is changed each year. The Australian Kangaroo Coin is made of 1 oz. of .999 pure silver, but beginning with the 2016 edition the newly released kangaroo bullion coin contains .9999 finest silver being the first 99,99% pure silver coin produced by the Perth Mint.
The design is the courtesy of Dr. Stuart Devlin. It also has the newest security feature: the micro-laser engraved letter “A” on its reverse side. Each Silver Kangaroo Coin has been issued a face value backed by the Australian government. The Australian Kangaroo coin is also available in gold. This superbly detailed Australian silver coin provides investors and collectors with a great opportunity to diversify existing collectors or investment portfolios, due to its high silver content.
